Ralston comes form a family that is rich with a passion in music.
In the fall of 2007, Ralston was having lunch with a guitarist friend. Among their discussion, Ralston mentioned his frustration as his attempt to pick up the banjo was not going well. His friend asked if he had ever considered trying bass (as his band was currently looking for a bassist). Ralston had never touched a bass, but was willing to try it out.
With banjo in hand, they visited a local music store and Ralston immediately felt more at home with the instrument. He traded the banjo for an Ibanez GSR 100 and a Roland 100 bass cube.
He still uses the Roland for home practice and the Ibanez was later gifted to his niece.
After a few weeks, he found that the friend’s band was not a good fit so he continued to play as a hobby at home. To practice, he would look up tabs and/or play along to YouTube videos. Occasionally, he would jam with friends or on stage for a song if demanded.
In early 2016, he began playing live again when he was recruited for the cover band, Whiskeytangofoxtrot by a friend and co-worker. Shortly after joining, he discovered his love for Schecter basses after purchasing a Stilleto Extreme 4.
The following year, he relocated back to Houston and was recruited for the Hard Rock/Metal band, Reason for Silence but shortly left due to creative differences. At this time he was also recruited for his friend’s new Experimental/Metal project, Blood on the Moon. During this time, he was also returned as the photographer/videographer/crew for Hold On Hollywood and was a Stand-In option for them if needed.
It was also during this time that he upgraded to a Shecter Stiletto Stage 4 which would become his primary bass.
By the fall of 2019, Blood On The Moon had evolved into Thrash Metal and Ralston chose to depart due to creative differences. One week after his departure from BOTM, he was recruited as a Stand-In for the Rock/Alternative band, Key Flight Captains. He played with KFC for the next 4 months until they found a new permanent replacement. Ralston is still a Stand-In as needed and occasionally can be found as a guest player during their shows.
While filming the promo for the 2020 Tune Out Cancer Music Fest, Ralston had just completed filming KFC’s Ryan English’s section. As English was departing, the two discussed jamming in the near future as KFC had just found their replacement. This discussion was heard by Roman McPherson who was preparing to be filmed for his section. McPherson was in need of a bassist for his Rap/Rock project, While in Rome WiR, and recruited Ralston on the spot.
Ralston was with WiR until a spine injury he sustained in early 2021 eventually became too much for him physically on stage and he decided to resign that summer to recover.
Other than a few times where he assisted on a project, Ralston primarily took a break from performing to focus on healing. He later relocated to Dallas in the fall of 2023.
To this day he still is part of Key Flight Captains as a Stand-In and is currently in discussion with another project as an option for a bassist in Dallas or as a Stand-In if needed.
Ralston prefers the Rock/Hard Rock/Nu Metal genres, especially when incorporated with blends of Jazz, Funk, or Motown.
